Kentucky 4-H Citizenship Bee Presented by Charles E. Stamper, Ed.D., Kentucky Cooperative Extension Special Projects Coordinator

In July 2017 the KY Legislature voted that all public high school students must pass a citizenship test based on the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services test (USCIS). The Kentucky 4-H Program, working with other youth organizations, instituted the Kentucky 4-H Citizenship Bee (4HCB) to complement the requirements. The 4HCB started in 2018 and is held center-stage at the Kentucky State Fair. The material is based on the most current version of the USCIS manual, plus the KY 4-H Civic Engagement curriculum pieces. The event is styled after the traditional spelling bee. It is fun and engaging! The goal of the 4HCB is to increase the level of knowledge of basic citizenship facts for 4-H members in a fun and engaging way.

This webinar will:

1) Discuss the goal & objectives of the 4HCB

2) Introduce the materials used

3) Discuss how 4-H Clubs are integrating 4HCB

4) Introduce the rules and guidelines for the 4HCB
