Since founding the Leadership Difference in 1995, more than 300,000 people have attended Dave’s “enter-TRAIN-ment” seminars. In 2015, Meetings and Conventions Magazine named Dave one of the Best Speakers of the Year. He has a B.A. in Mass-Communications and a Master’s Degree in Global Human Resources Development. Dave served as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois and is a Certified Advanced Wine Sommelier by the International Wine Guild. Having failed to achieve his dream of playing professional baseball, he went on to a successful coaching career at the tee ball level. Dave is the author of the book Live and Learn or Die Stupid! which focuses on personal contentment and performance excellence. His second book, The Power of Understanding People, was named Best Business Book of the Month by Amazon. Dave lives in the Walla Walla Valley wine country with his wife of 30 years, Lori; has two adult children; three horses, two dogs, and two cats: Socks and Stinker-Bell.
Dr. Frederic Bertley
Center of Science and Industry (COSI), Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Bertley began his leadership of COSI in January of 2017. Prior to joining COSI, he was Senior Vice President for Science and Education with the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia where he directed a diverse portfolio of visionary initiatives supporting innovation in STEM learning and science communication. He also founded and directed the Color of Science™, which highlights the incredible contributions of women and persons of color to modern day science and engineering. Dr. Bertley has a Ph.D. in Immunology from McGill University, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. After graduating, Dr. Bertley turned his attention to the lack of primary healthcare, preventative medicine, and basic vaccines in developing nations where he managed multinational teams in Haiti, The Sudan, and the Canadian Arctic. Dr. Bertley has keynoted and been an invited speaker at several distinguished institutions including The United Nations, The White House, the US Department of Interior, the National Academy of Sciences, and the National Science Foundation here in the U.S., as well as in Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Africa. Dr. Bertley has received numerous honors some of which include: Dell Inc. Inspire 100 World Changers, Harvard Medical School Dean’s Service Award, Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, Philadelphia Business Journal Minority Business Leader of The Year, and two Mid-Atlantic, National Academy of Television and Science EMMYs.
